And now, by popular request, a picture of her in her new hat.

Taken just moments ago, in fact.

For some reason i'm finding this blog a lot harder to keep up with now that we have her home. Could have to do with other things as well, but it's striking me as somewhat odd how easy it is to forget to post anything. Either way, i've been promising a nice, juicy entry for a while now (and yes, i realize i was supposed to really fill this sucker up yesterday and in fact wrote nothing) so let's get that started.

Tuesday had an appointment with her new pediatrician, a woman i've not met but Christine tells me is so wonderful she can hardly believe it. Unfortunately, said doctor does not accept the insurance that we have, or not the specific sub-type or imprint or whatever of the insurance we have. Insurance is like accounting to me, i understand the general idea but have no knowledge of the specifics whatsoever. Well, one of the reasons that we had an appointment with that doctor was she supposedly did take our insurance, something the discharge coordinator at the hospital assured us of repeatedly. Suitably nervous now, we called the hospital to, basically, see what the heck was up with that and discovered that the discharge coordinator had the wrong insurance information for us. That made us wonder about our coverage at the hospital in general. Were we in fact going to be getting a massive bill for the entirety of Tuesday's care, Christine's two night stay there and various other odds and ends? I was assured that we would be covered, that because Tuesday needed to be in an intensive care nursery and because we were never involved in the choosing of which NICU she would go to that our insurance would, or could be made to, cover just about everything. Let me make a small aside.

Talking to a friend today i heard a story about an acquaintance of theirs who had a child in the NICU, i don't know for how long, and the bill actually caused them to go into bankruptcy. In fact, i was also informed by my sister that medical expenses are the leading cause of bankruptcy in the U.S. Part of our concern over the billing was caused by a letter we got from the hospital totalling up what we owed for the first five days of Tuesday's NICU stay. It was ten thousand dollars. Good lord. After all the echocardiograms, the CPAP, the genetic testing, the x-rays, the extubating, the intubating and everything else i shudder to think what we might owe the hospital. So it was nice to hear that, in the end, we will probably not have to foot the bill.

Christine called the insurance to get what Tuesday has changed over to what Tuesday apparently needs, or what the doctor from heaven takes, at any rate. Everything should be cleared up and our daughter will be seeing her pediatrician this coming week. What will come of that appointment none of us has any idea. Perhaps we'll discover some other step we could be taking to keep her comfortable. Who knows?

Looks awful cute in that strawberry hat, doesn't she?

I'm sorry photogmama, as much as we appreciate your comments and your support i deleted your last little post because it contained someone's full name. We're trying to keep everything as anonymous as possible on here. Heck, we haven't mentioned anyone's first names aside from Christine's, Tuesday's and mine so far. If Blogger allowed me to do so i would have just blotted out the last name, but instead i had no option but to delete it all.

Please feel free to comment as much as you want, in fact, post a ton, reading comments on our blog is a super treat.
